Baltimore businessman, Wendell Armbruster (Jack Lemmon), must head to Italy to claim his father’s body who has died in a car accident. Italy is where his father spent a month of vacation once a year, and it’s also, sadly, where he died. In route to Italy, Wendell keeps running into the same woman, Pamela Piggott (Juliet Mills). He has no idea who she is, but she seems to know who he is. To Wendell’s shocking surprise, he soon learns that his father was carrying on an affair for years with Pamela’s mother who also died in the car accident. On a tight schedule getting his body back to the US, and encountering many delays, Wendell and Pamela decide to honor their parents by touring Ischia together and visiting all the spots they loved. In the process, they learn what a grand love affair it truly was.
