The brilliant lawyer Hank Palmer (Robert Downey Jr.) returns to his hometown after a long time to say goodbye to his mother one last time. However, he is not in love with his father, the esteemed Judge Joseph Palmer (Robert Duvall), for a variety of reasons. Hank wants only one thing: to disappear as soon as possible. On the plane, however, he is caught up with the news that his father has been charged in a car accident that killed a man Palmer once sentenced to 20 years in prison. Hank decides to save his father at any cost, despite his differences with him.
