A political thriller that looks into the predatory and corrupt environment of the global oil industry, it attempts to show the consequences of the pursuit of wealth and power through several parallel storylines. It takes us into the offices of Washington brokers as well as the men who toil in the oil fields of the Persian Gulf. The film's plot unfolds against the backdrop of the efforts of the young, charismatic and reform-minded Prince Nasir, the leader of an unnamed Gulf country, to extricate himself from long-standing unfavourable contracts with American companies and governments that pursue only their own interests. Nasir, who is set to become heir to the throne, has awarded the rights to further natural gas production, previously held by Texas energy giant Connex, to a larger and more lucrative offer from China. The move is a painful blow below the belt for Connex and U.S. business interests in the region...
