He was as happy as few. A successful surgeon with a high income, a luxury car and a comfortable villa. Popular with his friends, respected by his colleagues. All that changed drastically one night. Dr. Richard Kimble (Harrison Ford) returns from the hospital to find his beloved beautiful wife with her head shattered in a pool of blood. Then a brutal assailant pounces on him as well. A brief confused struggle ensues, the rapist flees and the doctor desperately embraces his dying wife. When Kimble tells the lawmen his story, he describes the rapist as a man with a prosthetic arm instead of one. The story is so preposterous that the officers don't believe him, and the man, who was blameless only yesterday, becomes the prime suspect and, thanks to seemingly unshakable evidence, is eventually convicted of premeditated murder and sentenced to death. However, while being transported from one prison to another, he manages to escape under very dramatic circumstances. His life now has only one meaning - he must find the real killer of his wife. FBI specialists soon follow the fugitive's trail. The manhunt is led by veteran agent Sam Gerhard (Tommy Lee Jones). Dr. Kimble has become a man with no future, a hound with seemingly no chance of survival...
