In 1940 Nazi Germany has successfully invaded Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and manage to reach France. The German Troops are pushing the remaining 400 000 British, Canadian, Belgium and French soldiers towards the coast. The retreated troops are gathering on a beach of Dunkirk where an evacuation operation, operation dynamo, is supposed to be carried out. The movie focuses on the intertwined stories of different involved in different ways in this operation. Tree soldiers, Tommy, Gibson and Alex trying to get on one of the ships in Dunkirk. Mr. Dawson and his son who own a recreational craft and preparing for the requisition by the Royal Navy. And tree British pilot covering the operation from the air against German bombers.
