Ryan O'Neal and Barbra Streisand star in a wacky comedy about a distracted music scientist, an eccentric young lady and four pieces of luggage that are all the same. The American madcap comedy with an all-star cast is based on the existence of four virtually identical cables, between which a series of confusions occur. One bag contains jewellery of staggering value, another contains top secret government documents. The third bag is not entirely without significance, in which a certain lady has her 'wardrobe' for the journey. Seemingly worthless is the last bag, full of "stones", unless its contents are used to demonstrate a revolutionary scientific theory. As a result, human destinies will also become entangled. This is how two completely different personalities meet - the absent-minded music theorist Howard and the eccentric Miss Judy...

The plot itself takes place both in a large hotel and on the streets of San Francisco, and is "laced" with many gags and ideas. The film won the British Critics' Award for Best Comedy of 1972 and was voted the fifth highest-grossing film in the US and Canada that year.
