Top bodyguard Frank Farmer is persuaded to take a job with popular black singer and actress Rachel Marron, who has received several threatening letters and narrowly escaped an assassination attempt. Although the star does not want a new bodyguard (her managers are hiding not only the threatening letters but also the reason for the assassination attempt), Frank eventually accepts the job at the insistence of Devaney, an African American. He becomes acquainted with the unusual environment of the music industry, with which he has had no previous experience, and despite his professional principles, he becomes involved in a romantic relationship with the seductive singer. It slowly becomes clear that the threatening letters have nothing to do with the attack and that the attacker is not a psychopathic fan, as it initially seemed, but an experienced professional who was well paid for the murder. Frank suspects that the decisive attack will come during the Oscar ceremony, for which Rachel has been nominated for Best Actress. However, after his previous measures, the mentally exhausted singer decides to refuse protection just before the critical moment. Nevertheless, Frank remains on guard, ready to sacrifice his life for Rachel.
