Pete Mitchell (Tom Cruise), a daring young pilot nicknamed "Maverick," is becoming the best of the best. He is sent on a five-week course to Miramar, California, to attend a school for elite military pilots called Top Gun. Here, the hot-headed pilot competes with the greatest aces in the field and meets not only the attractive astrophysicist and flight instructor Charlie (Kelly McGillis), but also his brilliant and highly competitive classmate "Iceman" (Val Kilmer), with whom he engages in a ruthless battle for supremacy from the very beginning. But while Maverick is haunted by the mysterious death of his father, will he be able to tame his wild nature and win not only the prestigious Top Gun trophy, but also the heart of the girl he loves?
