This epic historical film by Canadian director Jean-Marc Vallée follows the early years of Queen Victoria's reign, who ascended to the British throne at the age of just eighteen. The young monarch must fight for her place within a rigid system and emancipate herself both in relation to the influential politicians of her time and in her private life in relation to her domineering mother and her ambitious secretary, Lord Conroy. In an environment full of intrigue, she finds much-needed support in her relationship with Prince Albert. Victoria is played by Emily Blunt, who was nominated for a prestigious Golden Globe for her performance, while Prince Albert is played by Rupert Friend. Jim Broadbent, Mark Strong, Paul Bettany, and Miranda Richardson appear in supporting roles in this visually and technically perfect spectacle. The film has won numerous awards, including an Oscar for Best Costume Design.
